50k – NaNoWriMo end!

I think my lack of updates can be summed up to mean how hard this past month has been with writing. Fell short of my goal but came back to hit 50k last night before midnight. Even though I did not hit 75k, I find this to be a victory as I was seriously close to quitting this year.

I must give a big shout out to all my new NaNo friends! Thank you all so so much, you know who you are. This win goes out to you.

Night of Writing Dangerously was a lot of fun! Next year is being planned already and I need to make sure I have extra time before and after the events to hang out and tour the sights.

Blatant self-promotion; Links galore

November is the busiest time of year for me, so I felt it was time again to self-promote everything that’s going on. The links might help explain some of my disappearance or sudden increase on posting. Not sure which way it’ll go yet, but I hope for the latter! I participate in National Novel Writing Month, which starts tomorrow. To follow my progress or add me if you also write, visit my profile here. There may be daily posts about word count (or lack of reaching said word count) and snippets of my novel. I plan on doing my best to reach 75,000 words this year. Donate to NaNo and Office and Letters and Light in my name and increase my noveling karma here. I do have a Twitter widget on the right side of my blog, but if you’d like the actual page to follow me, click here. Besides all the writing, meetings, and trip to San Fran, there’s also at least two Thanksgivings for me to attend. Add that Koda is teething and being a generally rebellious dog, and November is going to be very busy!

Of Words, Fundraisers, and Dogs

Outlining for NaNoWriMo2011 has been going very well so far. I’m using Excel documents created by another Wrimo a few years ago, and it even includes deadlines for when you should complete each section! (I’m a little behind already but I’m catching up quickly.)

My fundraiser for Night of Writing Dangerously is going pretty well. It’s currently sitting at $285, just short of my initial $350 goal. Can we rally together and meet it?

In other news, Koda, my Lab and Husky mix, is finally growing at a good rate. He’s still “behind” for the average age of these breeds but he’s gained almost 2 pounds since our first vet visit Sept 19th. Changing his food and getting rid of roundworms really does help a puppy get healthy! I still can’t believe the rescue didn’t realize he had worms…

How to write faster

How to write faster. – By Michael Agger – Slate Magazine.

It’s no secret that writing is hard … but why can’t I be one of those special few for whom it comes easily? What am I doing wrong? Why haven’t I gotten any faster?

I found this article through some advice for writers. It was an interesting read even if the exact formula for writing is different for every person. I think becoming involved with so many extra things that take up  my time – like Twitter – definitely distract from writing quickly. However, there are days like today where I find great inspiration and end up plotting and planning outlines for hours just from some quotes.

Speaking of writing, my fundraiser for Night of Writing Dangerously is going very well! Raised $285 as of this update out of my initial goal of $350. I’ve made enough to be officially invited to the event (at least $250) but I’d like to see how far we can take it! Every penny goes directly to the Office of Letters and Light.

My NaNoWriMo fundraising page for The 2011 Night of Writing Dangerously

Dear readers,

I need your help! In order to get to the Write-a-Thon in November, I need to raise at least $250 to go towards The Office of Letters and Light. (NaNo’s parent company) Every penny earned through this page goes directly to them, I will have no access to this money. I’m trying for $350.

This will:

  • Benefit hundreds of children and adults around the world
  • Give you good karma!
  • Allow me to visit amazing people that put this event on every year.
  • Make me burst with pride that I know you!

Thank you advance!
